"Struggling with the basics"

About: Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital

My dad was admitted to hospital with a cough. He ended up catching the D&V that was on the ward when he got there and quickly his cough because the least of his worries. My experience of visiting the ward was that the nurses where absolutely overwhelmed with the workload - there were simply not enough staff. It makes the ones that are there seem a bit rubbish as they are dashing about not able to manage but the real problem is that there are not enough of them. Obvious issues - like being stopped two or three times by patients needing help while on the way from a patient to the sluice only make things worse. I asked to speak to the doctor - she was very junior and said she was not sure what was happening and so I asked to speak to her consultant and he refused. Bottom line. Definitely NOT somewhere you would want to go if you are ill. I feel for all the local residents. Its not that bad everywhere else.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience at the hospital. Please could I ask you to contact matron Dawn Ojadi so we can take some more details and look into this? You can reach Dawn by email on dawn.ojadi@nhs.net or by calling 01472 875403 ext 7209. Many thanks, Sarah Mainprize
