On Tuesday this week at Old Street Tube station I cut my right leg just above the ankle very badly. An emergency team from the Royal London Hospital was summoned. They arrived very quickly, immediately established a good and friendly working relationship with me, cleaned the wound, stitched it up, dressed it, provided me with a course of antibiotics, and advice on how to manage the wound. All this was done at the station with the minimum of fuss. The team was kind, thoughtful, and efficient. This was the NHS at its best. I was proud of them, and of a system which is worth defending.
