A friend has recently been transferred to this wad after only being in Intensive care at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital until yesterday morning. He is suffering from an infection which has left him suffering from delirium. The ward is in the basement of the old Queen Elizabeth which is mainly derelict with building work being carried out. There is no signs to show how to get to this ward and at one time we were walking towards the pathological department. There was no staff to ask the way and with the ongoing building work this is a severe health and safety issue. I would not like to walk these corridors of an evening and could cause a personal safety issue for your staff. The staff on the ward are lovely and full credit should go to them as working there must be demoralising for them all. It looks as though the patients have been placed in this ward and completely forgotten. These elderly patients should be treated by the hospital with dignity and respect. The facilities on this ward such as bathroom facilities are not adequate for the patients and is not a healthy environment for them to recover from their illness.
