"where was the comparison."

About: Gravesham Community Hospital

It was so upsetting I needed to take an 87 year old terminal ill lady she is nearly at the end of her life to Gravesend hospital minor injuries unit and the out of hours doctor, she had a fall in her flat and cut her face so to save her all the upset of going to darent valley, and having to wait hours in the waiting room we took her to minor injuries Gravesend we was told that we was 10 min late despite telling them about the lady they still showed her no comparison what so ever and to add to it the doctor took a look and said he cant help ever and to go to darent valley so go's to the car will not start needed to call RAC so we took her back in and still they would not help, they said call a ambulances so we did and they also refused to help even telling them it was the doctor who told us to call them so called her family they live over 30 miles away, we did ask the receptionist if he could call us a taxi to take her to hospital he said no go to the taxi rank with a lady in her night clothes and in a wheel chair getting cold and very upset the thing was rather frustrating it would have taken them 5 min clean her face and dress,a little bit of comparison would not have hurt, the family got to us about 9,45 and she was stuck at darent valley till 3,30am poor lady so much upset at that stage of her life, the word care needs to be put back in to health care.

Hello, Thanks for taking the time to tell us about your recent visit to the Minor Injury Unit at Gravesham Community Hospital. We have been in contact with the member of staff in charge of the unit to get a clearer understanding of what happened. The unit closes at 8 pm but on this particular evening the staff were still there writing up their notes as they had been extremely busy that day. We understand that when you knocked on the door the staff member explained politely that unfortunately the unit was closed and advised you to take the patient to Darent Valley Hospital where she would get the care she needed. It was very unfortunate that your car broke down but this was in no way the responsibility of the staff at the unit and the same applies to the way the patient was dressed. We understand that you were very concerned and anxious about the patient and trying to do the best for her but in hindsight it would have been more suitable on this occasion to call the patient's GP for a house visit or an ambulance to take her to hospital. We hope you are happy with our response. If you still have some questions you'd like answered more fully please contact our Customer Care Team (contact details below).
