"Unnecessary visit to outpatients clinic"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

I accompanied a friend who has great difficulty walking to an orthopaedics appointment. Her appointment was for 2pm, she was called in at 2.35pm to be told that the consultant wasn't there and that she would receive another appointment through the post. Could they not have rung her to avoid this unnecessary visit? We paid parking charges all for nothing.

We are really sorry to hear of the inconvenience caused, usually patients are made aware in advance if clinics are cancelled and appointments rearranged. In exceptional circumstances cancellations take place at very short notice (which may have been the case with your friend's appointment) and we are unable to contact the patient. We would like to apologise again for the inconvenience caused.
