"Two days and nights on Ward D5 Urology/ short stay..."

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

This letter is from Michael L. Age 70 years. I was on ward D5 bed 27, on Monday/Tuesday and part of Wednesday 4/5/6 August 2014. I had an operation for a removal of a kidney stone and removal of some of my prostrate. I want to thank everybody that I came into contact with form the administration team, cleaner, tea girl, the nurses all the different grades, staff nurses, sisters, through to the surgeon and his colleges, and not forgetting the anaesthetist. The last thing I remember was the anaesthetist saying 30 seconds. I woke up on the ward in bed with everything finished, I had no after/side effects at all, no head ache, I remembered nothing. Everybody took the time to speak to me and were very reassuring, friendly and very professional. In all my time I did not come across any body that had an attitude problem, everybody was so kind and helpful, nothing was to much trouble. At all time I was treated with the utmost respect. I was constantly being monitored, for pain, blood pressure, temperature, asked whether I had any concerns, etc. Checks were in place using my wrist band so that there could be no mistakes with my medication etc. Before any of the procedures were carried out I was informed of everything that was going to be carried out and possible side effects. The ward was made up of different rooms, in my room there were four beds, and the first night there were only two of us and was reasonably quiet, the second night the room was full and was more lively and the staff/nurses were kept very busy. I should mention that there is a television for each bed with phone internet etc. I did not take advantage off this. It is not free but the radio is. The TV is free before 12.00 am every day. The food was great, with a large choice of dishes and sweets, as much or as little as you required. I was discharged at 7.15 am as everything was deemed to be okay. I was allowed to go home by taxi which was not a problem, as in the main entrance to the hospital was free phone for a local taxi company. Thanks once again "Stepping Hill" I have great admiration and respect for the work you do, and these two days have been an eye opener for me. Regards Michael L.
