"Not a bad place at all"

I was brought to ridge Lea in an ambulance from a and e because I was having a psychotic episode and wanted to kill myself. I was treated with respect and the place is pleasant. As far as psych hospitals go! The staff are lovely on the whole and really do care. I stayed on the Lancaster unit which was the only ward open at the time all other wards were closed a while ago. There were times when I was a bit bored but there was pool table and OT activities. Obviously mental hospitals are not nice places but I really think ridge Lea is best of a bad bunch. It is a bit scary as it's very Victorian and old. But it is now closed for good. I was the very last patient to leave the hospital!

Many thanks for your posting about Ridge Lea hospital. I have made sure this has been passed onto the managers and staff from the unit. They will be pleased to read what you have written about the care they provided. Many of them are now carrying on this good work at the new unit in Lancaster, the Orchard.
