My mother age 85 was taken to Basildon Hospital A&E on the 31:07:14 after having a fall at home that morning. We eventually saw a doctor after several hours, the doctor gave her a very brief examination, a specimen of urine was also taken and then a nurse was called who gave my mother a ECG she also took my mother,s blood pressure after which she administered liquid morphine pain relief from a syringe into my mothers moth this was performed very roughly considering it was given to an elderly lady who was already in considerable pain no offer of water to help wash it down was offered, she felt very ill afterwards and felt very sick for 24 hours after and was retching on and off during the 24 hour period. the doctor returned after about an hour to check the result of the ECG the nurse who performed the ECG was found and asked for the result she shrugged her shoulder and said "I don't remember what I did with it " gave a grin and walked away, the procedure had to be done again, the nurse had a resentful attitude through out. The A&E was in a chaotic and shambolic state the whole time we were there and a number of the staff acted in a very unprofessional way we had no confidence in the department and felt that patients safety was at risk.
