"I don't get much support from my communtiy matron"

About: Central Lancashire PCT / Community nursing

(as the patient),

I only see my community matron occasionally as I have had no contact with her. I had carpal tunnel procedures, but when I asked her to visit she never did. She must be very busy. Those who are critical get the benefit of it, but as I don't ask for help, I don't get much support. It's a good service but as I'm not seriously ill, I don't get much access to the service. people like myself aren't noticed, I'm just not ill enough so it seems the matron doesn't make enough time.

Dear Fire556

I am sorry to hear that you feel that you are not getting much support. It would be helpful to know which area of Central Lancashire you live in so that the Community Matron team can review whether the service is meeting patients needs appropriately.

I will pass your comments to the Community Matron manager so that a more detailed response can be provided. This will be posted within 2 weeks.

Thank you for letting us know how you feel. Your views are very important to us as they can help us to improve our service to all our patients.

Dear Fire556

The Community Matron Service aims to empower, encourage and educate people to self manage their own condition which will then help them to identify when they feel their condition is deteriorating. As a result, they can then seek support ASAP to prevent unnecessary admission to hospital.

You state that you requested a visit following a carpal tunnel procedure but that the Matron did not visit. It is difficult for me to comment directly on your case as it is not clear what difficulties you were experiencing at this time and whether the matron thought your needs would be better met via a different service.

If you are on the Community Matrons caseload you are most welcome to make contact with the service if you have any concerns you wish to discuss or to request an earlier contact by your Matron if you need to.

Should you wish to contact the service, you can do so on the following telephone numbers, depending on which area you live in:-

Chorley and South Ribble 01772 644168

West Lancashire 01695 588288

Preston 01772 777353
