I would not recommend this hospital to birth in. I wish I had gone to Worthing instead. My experience was horrific and left me very traumatised by the birth, it was so upsetting I found it very difficult to bond with my baby at first from all the guilt I felt at how badly I allowed myself to be treated by the midwives when I was in labour. I was not allowed into the delivery ward (no chance of getting to use the birth unit even though there was some empty ones, because my notes said high risk even though the specialists I had seen regarding this confirmed that the reason for being high risk would not be reason enough to prevent being allowed into birthing unit) the midwife in charge was rude and in experienced, she told me I was not in labour and within an hour of this comment I had given birth to my son.
I was completely neglected and stuck on the day unit. The midwife would not listen to me and I had to beg her to check my dilation. I was offered a bath for my pain! I very nearly gave birth in that ward toilet had my son not had the cord round his neck.
The midwife even sent my birth partners home! Luckily my husband refused but my mother was not allowed to stay so had to go and sit in the chapel at midnight!
A formal investigation is ongoing but if you have any medical conditions written on your notes or if you require extra care for any reason don't pick this hospital.
The after care was horrific too! My stitches opened at 10days post delivery and I had to demand to be seen as they told me to go to A&E. The doctor failed to spot the opening despite it being seen by a midwife the day previous who had recommended I get it looked at in the hospital but the hospital sent me home and now I am stuck with a large hole where one shouldn't be that has now healed but the earliest appointment I have been given to see someone regarded the mess if 1st Oct! It is completely disgusting!
