"Loving care at the end of a life"

About: Victoria Hospital / Medical Oncology

(as a relative),

My mother was diagnosed with untreatable cancer. Her last 2 weeks were an emotional time for her and the close family.

The staff in the ward including the consultant, registrars, palliative care nurse, nurses in charge and other nursing staff and ward orderlies provided us with the best possible professional advice and clinical support. They managed Mum's care in her last days and hours so that her pain was minimized but she remained aware and lucid so that she was able to say her final goodbyes to the family. They treated her as a unique person, with love and dignity.

The staff reminded us that everyone has to die. With this quality of care delivered within the NHS I no longer feel it is something to fear.

Dear Pass the Baton,

First of all, please accept my condolences to you and your family for the sad loss of your mother. Thank you for your kind comments and for taking the time to post this at such a difficult time for you all.

Providing good end of life care is hugely important and I am glad that the staff did their very best to provide care and support for not just your mother, but the family also.

I would like to pass on your kind words to the staff concerned and if you can, please call me on 01592 648153 to let me know where your mother was cared for.

Once again thank you so much for your comments, they are very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Gill Ogden
