When I sustained a comminuted patella fracture on January 14th, the surgeon said. "Don't thank me now...." He was aware that my injury had been very serious and recovery depended on the success of his surgery. It is now just over six months since my accident and I want to thank him and all his colleagues in the Orthopedic Department at St Thomas' for their wholly successful surgery. After 8 weeks of total immobility of my knee (using a wheel-chair with a leg extension for any travel outside the home), I received excellent care from the Trauma Clinic and Physiotherapy department at Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge. I am now walking without any sticks, with almost full flexion in my knee. Apart from a little stiffness, I am fully recovered. The wire in my knee is not causing any problems and will stay where it is, with no need for further surgery. I will continue to be careful for the next sixth months to let my body complete the bone-strengthening which is on-going. Thank you for your care and the excellence of your surgical skills.
