What I liked

I have recently visited a couple of my freinds at SOuthmead and was appalled to hear their stories - one (aged in late 80s) was in hospital for 6 weeks and throughout that time the communication to their family on their condition was very poor. Another, a lady in her forties, was told by a doctor that her presence on a ward had been overlooked for a few days hence she had not had a scan that she was waiting for. Wouldnt it be great if all patients were kept fully in the know about their conditions, with appropriate updates given to worried family members too ? Response from Southmead Hospital

North Bristol is very concerned to hear about your friends experiences and would urge them to get in touch so we can look into the issues you raise further. North Bristol prides itself on the care and experience given to all patients, and takes each complaint very seriously. However, we cannot enter into discussion on this website about specific cases, for obvious reasons of confidentiality.

Your friends can contact us via our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0117 340 6646 or by email at: pals@nbt.nhs.uk. Or you can write to us at: Complaints Department, North Bristol NHS Trust, Frenchay Hospital, Trust Headquarters, Beckspool Road, Frenchay, Bristol BS16 1JE.

At present North Bristol, in keeping with other NHS organisations, is not in a position to keep family and friends informed of a patients progress electronically, and as you may imagine, in many instances, this would not be an appropriate form of communication.
