"Poor experience of Blackburn A&E"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

My husband has been in A&E waiting to be transferred to medical assessment ward for almost 8 hours! The staff seem unprofessional, some of the doctors are dressed unprofessionally and staff appear not to have any regard for patient care.

I also witnessed people on trolleys waiting in the corridor, completely unacceptable in 2014!

Second time we have visitors this hospital, the last time was 2007 and I have to say the service seems to have gotten worse and is an utter shambles and something which East Lancs Trust should be ashamed of.

Response from Royal Blackburn Hospital

Dear Cheryl75 First of all very many apologies for the extreme lateness of this response, Patient Opinion did not make me aware of your comment and it has only now come to notice through the NHS Choices website and their feed from Patient Opinion on the 17th April 2015. I am very sorry to hear about your experience of care at our A&E at Royal Blackburn Hospital back in August 2014 and can only apologise that we do not appear to have met our desire to deliver safe, personal & effective care for you and your husband. I will pass on your comment to the team, however I would hope that recent comments around the A&E department and its care show how this is continuing to improve and deliver great care to patients, relatives and their carers. If you would like to talk through your visit to us with one of our Patient Experience team so we can understand the bits of your experience that made this experience such a poor one for you we would really value this so that we can try to improve. You can either contact me (Wendy Stobbs) on 01254 734471 or email me on wendy.stobbs@elht.nhs.uk. Or if you would like to share your experience in confidence with an independent organisation please contact Healthwatch BwD on 01254 504985 or info@healthwatchblackburnwithdarwen.co.uk Many thanks again for commenting and apologies again for the late response Wendy Stobbs, Senior Patient Experience Facilitator
