"Pressured by TRAQS to go to Specsavers"

About: Telford referral and quality service (TRAQS)

(as the patient),

On the occasions I was told I would be contacted by TRAQS. Within a week this did not happen. I had to phone TRAQS myself + I was disturbed by the pressure given by TRAQS to go to Specsavers! On my first contract with TRAQS I said that I wanted contact with a proper medical examiner to see why I had lost my hearing overnight as Specsavers would only want to sell me a hearing aid that would not address my deafness. I was not told of any other hearing clinics that were available to me. I can only speculate why Specsavers are approved so heavily.

IThank you for taking the time to share your comments and concerns with the TRAQS team.

I am disappointed that you feel that the TRAQS team pressured you into accepting a referral to the Specsavers Hearing Service. I would like to take this opportunity to explain how the TRAQS service works.

TRAQS process all referrals from all GP practices within the Telford and Wrekin area and we process the referrals to ensure that patients are offered the most appropriate Choice of provider for their condition. I can reassure you that TRAQS is an NHS organisation and do not arrange Private appointments where patients are expected to pay for services. Any hearing aids which are prescribed by Specsavers Hearing Service following a referral from TRAQS are provided free of charge by the NHS.

There are a number of clinics TRAQS can pass referrals to when requesting audiology tests including the Specsavers Hearing Services. Specsavers is the only service which shows appointment dates/times and therefore all Specsavers appointments appear first on the list. The script our call handers follow offers patients the first available appointment and I am sorry if you felt pressured by this information to accept an appointment at Specsavers.
