What I liked
H4 was a clean ward and the doctor was very honest with our family
What could be improved
when people are dying there is no dignity, and nobody really seems to care
Having been told that our Mum had a 30% chance survival, as a close family we were obviously heartbroke. Mum was then transferred from H4 to D6. We were horrified to find that it was only 2 to a bed and strict visiting rules. Two days into Mum's stay we were all called in because we were told she was dying. Mum survived the day and then we were told to go back to strict visiting rules. On two seperate occasions Mum was quite agitated. I was there the first time and was pleading for nurses attention to help calm Mum down. It took 10 minutes before anybody came and then the second time staff were on change over and completely ignored my sister leaving her distressed. Eventually somebody came. During visiting they were moving Mum onto a different bed which took at least half an hour of visiting time and staff were shouting and swearing at each other. Unfortunately Mum had to endure a week in D6 before she died. She had worked all her life and never asked anybody for anything because we couldn't afford private care Mum had to die without dignity, lonely and without her family by her bedside. At present my father is in NMGH. Again if we could have gone private we would have. We have no choice but to let them treat my father but once again he is being let down as he has dimesia which means he needs reassurance and total care. Because it is still ongoing I will not go on any further.
