"The triage nurse and one Nurse ..."

About: Broomfield Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The triage nurse and one Nurse in A & E were excellent. The Auxillary nurses, cleaners, porters and caterers were also very good and are definately the workers in this hospital.

What could be improved

Whilst in pain and discomfort both me and my wife were lied to on several occassions by SHOs, Nurses, Sisters and Duty Managers regarding when I would be assessed by a consultant. I was eventually assessed and wrongly diagnosed 2 days after my emergency admission to the hospital. This wrong diagnosis resulted in me later returning to the hospital 3 days later; if they had acted quicker on my first visit I am confident they would have got it correct. Nursing staff from Staff nurse to Matron and all Doctors and Consultants think they are all high and almighty and talk to you as if you were a child; they also treat staff below them as inferior. If you are waiting for something e.g. results/assessment by a consultant you will either be told a lie on when to expect this, you will not be updated if it does not arrive at the expected time, and usually you will just be told it/he/she will be here when they are ready/available with no approximation of time leaving you to wait in your bed. This hospital does not care for patients and does not manage patient's expectations at all; I really fear for the patients who are not strong/well enough to speak up for themselves.
