"The wonderful treatment I have received from a Consultant Psychiatrist over the past 7 years"

Seven years ago, a combination of unfortunate life events all coming together at once led to my having a breakdown. I was severely depressed, highly anxious and felt suicidal and was hospitalised as a result. This was the start of a life changing and life enhancing experience because I was fortunate to be assigned to a wonderful Consultant Psychiatrist called Dr Samina Matin.

It has been a long haul, but thanks to her, and her team, I have for the first time in my life not only fully recovered but feel better, happier and more in control of my life and my well-being than I have felt for 50 years.

This Doctor is very special. Throughout my ups and downs and various crises along the road, she has always been there for me, and exercised her professional judgement with huge care, respect and compassion for me as an individual. She is open-minded, patient and non-judgemental. She has listened, advised and prescribed when appropriate, but never without consideration for my views and feelings. Dr Matin always understood how I felt when there were times when I could not find the words.

Today, I was discharged from her care. Dr Matin has given me the gift of 'mental-wellness'- and the confidence to go forward positively into the future. She herself is a gift to the Profession in which she practices and to all the patients who like myself have come under her care. I can never thank her enough.
