"Relieved to see that Parking Eye had gone"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

(as a relative),

I was going to the hospital and logged on to see about car parks etc. To my dismay I saw that Parking Eye do the car parks and from past experience in my opinion they also do the customers. I was delayed at another NE hospital because of delays in being seen (not my fault or the medics) but still got fined. They have this company in the Lake District, so I didn't want to go. I believe they keep customers away. Daft!

This approach is difficult for patients as when you park you have to guess how long you will be in the hospital, which is an impossibility. The patient/victim has no idea how long the medics will keep you, if they are running on time or what delays he will be subject to.

It is entirely inappropriate for someone who may be in distress to have to guess/worry if he will get fined for going to hospital. I am at a loss to understand how hospitals can subject patients to this sort of stress. I do however appreciate that with recent cuts to budgets hospitals have been forced to charge. But charging patients to be ill must surely not be the way.

When I actually got to N. Tyneside Hosp I was relieved to see that Parking Eye were gone - Great!!

Good on NT Gen Hosp for ridding us of them.

We were very grateful for all the patients and members of the public who took the time to share their experiences of parking with us. It enabled us to listen and make the changes we needed to.

It is also an example of why change websites like Patinet opinion are so important.

Thanks for your contribution,

Annie

Dear Buckers, Thanks for your thoughtful comments. The trust takes patient feedback very seriously indeed and took the decision to end our contract with Parking Eye due to the frustration that patients, families and members of the local community were reporting. Parking and charging for parking will always be a contentious issue but it is absolutley not in our interests to have this interfere with access to clinical care. I'm glad you feel we listened. best wishes, Annie
