I was admitted to Furness General for planned laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery. This was converted to open retrograde cholecystectomy for empyema of the gallbladder. I was a very nervous patient and was quite frankly, scared at the thought of surgery. I met teh consultant and her registrar prior to surgery and they were very clear about the surgery and why it was necessary. They were very reassuring and this put me at ease. I was also put at ease by the manner, prfessional approach and humour of the anaesthetist. Following surgery, the consultant and her team were very clear in why they had to convert to open surgery. The care that I recieved from all of the Hospital staff at that time was caring, compassionate and of the highest standards. Every member of staff invoved im my care kept me informed at all times and constantly re-assured me. Following discharge, I unfortunately developed complications and developed an infection and had to be re-admitted via A&E. Again, the care that I received was of the highest quality. I was attended to promptly and received the appropriate care. I was re-admitted to Hospital. What I did note was the team work between the surgical team and the clinical and other ward staff. I was consulted about my welfare at all times and kept up to date about my care plan. I was at that time very poorly and the care and dedication shown by all of the staff was a credit to the N.H.S. Every member of staff that I met had my welfare at the forefront of there plans. The nursing staff, admin staff and catering staff were all attentive to my wants and needs at a time where I was very weak and not wanting to eat. They went out of their way to make sure that my needs were met. There is no doubt that there are challenges to be met at Furness General Hospital but the care that I received was of the highest standards. I would have no hesitation in recommending Furness General Hospital to friends, family or any other service users. Every member of staff that I met carried out their roles to the highest standards. Thank you Furness General.
