I have been attending the Dermatology Department for a number of years. There have always been plenty of customers waiting to be attended and occasionally problems with very long waiting times after checking in. This seems to be getting worse rather than better. Since about 2009 I don't think I have seen the same doctor/consultant twice and I often wonder/doubt that there is continuity or consistency to my treatment. Telephoned cancellations and (much later) rescheduling of appointments is frequent and annoying - I have to turn down offers of work in order to attend the hospital and it is not possible to obtain last minute alternative work once the appointment is cancelled. Overall I would rate my experience of this Department as rather frustrating - whilst recognising that when I eventually receive treatment for BCCs (for example) it does a good job. Like so many parts of the NHS, my guess is that staffing levels lie at the bottom of any problems. Not an easy problem to solve at this time.
