I recently broke my clavicle bone very badly. I live in eastbourne and was assessed in the EDGH and informed by a consultant I should have an operation to fix the break with a metal plate urgently and was informed I should be admitted to the conquest hospital immediately. The consultant informed me someone from the conquest admissions will contact me with admission time later that day, he said if they haven't called you by 1700 I will need to contact the hospital myself. I was not contacted, called the admissions at the conquest and they informed me I do not exist on their systems and they transferred me to the EDGH, the staff there said I was on the system and that the conquest hospital have the same system and should have me. This carried on for three days of myself ringing the hospital trying to arrange the operation! Surely this is not the patients job, I was in a lot of pain and was very angry and frustrated. I found the staff nurses at the conquest very rude and impatient on the phone and it came across there is friction between the EDGH staff and conquest staff and the patient is being mistreated and stuck in the middle of hospital politics. The consultant/surgeon that preformed the surgery was excellent, but after the surgery I was not informed how the surgery went and was left on a very dirty ward. I asked the nurse if anyone was going to talk to me about the surgery I've had and what will happen next but she informed me in her words "no I doubt it, you've had surgery which you know what for and that is all you need to know" I was thrown back by this and very very frustrated as any patient would be. I arranged pain relief medication with the nurse and self discharged. It has been two weeks since I've had the surgery and still I have received no information of what is going to happen, I had to contact the hospital to arrange a follow up appointment - again surely not the patients job. The follow up appointment is not until four and a half weeks after the surgery I've had to ask a friend of mine that is a nurse to check my wound. I am very angry and disappointed with the service and the cleanliness of the hospital ward. I have paid me taxes all my working life and expected the NHS to be much better. I am now arranging private healthcare for my whole family because I do not want any of them to experience the very poor patient care the NHS provides.
