"The New Southmead Hospital"

About: Southmead Hospital

I have been going to Southmead Hospital for many years. I was pleasantly surprised when I first saw the hospital. I found it very easy to self-check in and also find my usual department. There were plenty of volunteers on hand if you needed them. My only one disappointment was the disappearance of the canteen which I have always used when I came for my appointment. The food was first class and reasonable with good service. So now that's gone, what have we got? Costa franchise which I found to be expensive and a bit of a "bun fight" in getting a coffee or snack. That is the only negative comment I have about Southmead Hospital. I hope soon that they'll be a canteen that will profit from the many customers that the 'old' canteen had and perhaps support and fund patient hospital food.

Dear Patricia – thank you for taking the time and trouble to post your views on the neurology service in the new Brunel Building. I was pleased to learn your appointment went well and your comments will be fed back to the staff concerned. I do agree that at the moment choice for refreshments is limited at the moment and I apologise that the choice is not as broad as it used to be. Phase 2 of the new hospital build will see the opening of more retail outlets giving patients more choice, although for commercial reasons I cannot say what this will include. I hope that when this is available next year patients’ experience will improve. Kind Regards - Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team
