"Terrible wait for 5+hours in Grantham A&E"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I attended Grantham A&E department and got myself booked onto the system at 18: 00ish. I was informed about a long delay due to lack of staff on duty. However I decided that I needed to be seen as I felt my ankle could be broken. So I eventually finally got seen by a doctor after 5 hours, this is disgraceful and Grantham hospital and the CEO should be ashamed of this poor service.

Please accept our sincere apologies. We did escalate the issues to the Executive Director On call for the hospital on that particular day. It was a combination of doctor absence and the sheer volume of patients attending the department. The nursing staff did work to ensure patients were cared for, kept informed and had pain relief as required. Unfortunately patients are always seen in priority order and therefore can increase the delay for the walking wounded.
