"My amazing water birth experience!"

About: New Cross Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

We arrived at the MLU in the middle of the night and were welcomed warmly by the amazing staff (even at that late hour) and shown to our birthing suite. The room was gorgeous - huge, bright, clean, calming and all ours! We felt immediately relaxed and at ease.

All of the staff were fantastic - professional, friendly and above all dedicated to giving us the experience we wanted.

Our midwife, Lyndsay, was incredible. She made me feel like I could do it all myself - like I was in control. I know she made my husband feel like he was vitally important too. She talked us through everything and I knew she was always there but ultimately I felt like my husband and I were delivering the baby ourselves. Climbing into the lovely birthing pool felt instantly relaxing, with the lights dimmed and softly playing music in the background - perfect...

Our beautiful son was born a short while later and I reached down into the water and picked him up myself and my husband and I spent a long time just holding him and each other. We were not rushed - we were encouraged to enjoy this magical moment.

We were allowed home the same day but again we did not feel rushed.

I cannot speak highly enough about Lyndsay, her team and the MLU. I can honestly say that this was one of the two best days of my life - the other one being the birth of my first son which was also a wonderful water birth! !
