My mother had unexpected pain following discharge which the medication was not controlling. I was advised speak to the general surgery infection surveillance nurse. Despite it not being part of the nurse's normal role, the nurse found a way for my mum to get the medication she needed, arranged an easy collection for me and phoned several times to keep me updated. What the nurse didn't know was that today was my dads 80th birthday and the nurse's actions not only helped my mum but also enabled me to spend as much time as possible with dad at his birthday celebration. All this on a Sunday. The care my mum has received throughout her treatment has been great, but the nurse's help will not be forgotten by my family. Thank you.
