"I liked the fact that when i was ..."

About: Russells Hall Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I liked the fact that when i was admitted to the AEU i was treated fairly quickly and the nurses down there were all friendly and very helpful. I also found the move to Medical HDU rather scary but i was resurred by the nurse on the AEU bedded ward. The Staff on Medical HDU were also very good, friendly, supportive and helpful i couldnt of asked for better nurses. They were also very happy during there work and this made me feel generally better as you can spend a lot of time during the day on your own till visiting and just seeing a happy face is nice. I also liked the fact that you werent rushed to do anything, during the day, for me it took alot of energy to get going in a morning, but i was never rushed, so they could change my bedding etc.... The student who was also assisting was lovely, she worked just as hard as the other nurses and gave a lot of care and support. As it was a struggle for them to get blood out of me, i liked the fact i was given reassurance about, this made it easier for me when i was being prodded, this was the same when they tried to put the canula's in as this seemed to cause a problem now and again. It was nice to know that they did actually care about what they were doing and how uncomfortable it was us as patients.

What could be improved

Some of the Night staff on HDU, were not as helpful as some of the other staff. I am aware that alot of the time i was seen during the night was by bank staff, but this is also frustrating as a patient, when there not sure about what help you really need, and therefore they wait for you to either explain or attempt to do it yourself. Im not sure how this could be improved though. Also when i came for blood tests i was told my letter would be at reception to collect i arrived at 8.30am to be told it wasnt there i then had to wait around as the person i needed to ring through to wasnt in till 9am, only to be told at 9am that my letter was there after all, this then meant i was waiting in bloods longer, and ended up with a larger carpark fee at the end of it all.

Anything else?

I cant thank the staff on both the EAU and the HDU enough for there help during my stay its a stay i doubt i will ever really forget. the hospital on the whole is kept very clean and tidy it shows just how hard all the different teams work to make the hospital a clean and friendly place..
