"Unclean Rooms"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

(as a relative),

I visited a relative in the hospital and found the room they were in to be very unclean. There was dried blood on the floor and around the bed on the controller and arms. This is simply unacceptable in a hospital where cleanliness is paramount.

I also found food under the chair in the room, which must have been from the meal time several hours earlier. Does nobody check on the patients in rooms to ensure the room is clean and orderly?

Additionally, after the patient received some attention from the nurses and doctor, they left the room with used gloves and tissues on the floor. If this is the standard of care given when the family is present, I'd hate to see how the patient is being treated during the day.

Update posted by adly (a relative)

It's a while since this was posted, and the patient has now passed (not in Sunderland Royal Hospital). It is unfortunate that this incident occurred and that nobody responded or resolved the issues at the time. While I understand the NHS is overworked, it is important to maintain cleanliness in a hospital environment, especially for patients who could be severely affected by an infection.

However, I will note that compared to University Hospital of North Durham the level of care was far superior. This is ultimately the most important thing.

Despite not receiving a response, I do hope these issues are taken onboard and service is improved. Sunderland Royal Hospital is an important hospital covering the local area and it would be disappointing for the people in the local area should things not improve.
