"Partial thyroidectomy"

About: Basildon University Hospital

The surgeon removed half of my thyroid in June 2014 after 4 years of tests 6-12 monthly (I could have had the operation earlier but declined it)! I have had excellent, considerate treatment throughout from the endocrinology consultant. I was extremely nervous of the operation and general anaesthetic but all the staff took my anxiety into account and behaved with confidence and consideration. Unfortunately I don't have the anaesthetists name so cannot praise him personally but he and his team were wonderful. I recovered quickly with minimal scarring and cannot praise the hospital highly enough for the attention I received. The surgeon was brilliant at putting me at my ease and efficient, because he was confident, I was too. The hospital was spotlessly clean at all times. I was told my operation would be performed within 3 months and it was. I stayed in one night and the only down side was the noise from other wards nearby Horndon ward which kept me awake all night but I am a light sleeper!
