"The consultant was respectful ..."

About: Bedford Hospital South Wing

(as a relative),

What I liked

The consultant was respectful and seemed competent. The nurse was friendly and relaxed, which helped to minimize nerves and embarrassment.

What could be improved

I went in for a rectal exam to find the cause of bleeding. Embarassing enough.

My ppointment was for 10:10 - I was called in at 11:10 - entirely NOT GOOD ENOUGH unless my doctor was called away to serve an emergency.

I was "prepared" for the exam by a nurse. She told me to drop my trousers and pants to my ankles and lay on my back.

In fact, this was entirely un-necessary. When the consultant came in, he immediately covered my tackle, and, after a tummy exam, he put me on my side.

Whilst I was lying there two nurses came in for chats about other work-related items. I lay there exposed un-necessarily.

The nurse was a nice lady, and I'm sure the nurses aren't interested in copping a peek at my tackle, but never-the-less, *I* felt very uncomfortable for no clinically-necessary reason.

Having a rectal exam is a miserable experience - I can't blame anyone for that, but this pointless additional humiliation was extremely unwelcome.

Anything else?

The people are lovely, but their conduct neds addressing in this. The lateness is un-acceptable. If clinics routinely run late like this, someone should ask WHY and fix it.
