On a routine visit I was told by my G/P that I needed an urgent medical abcess removed by surgery the very next day and told to be at the hospital by 7 a/m .I was not to eat from midnight . I turned up the next day ,scared but accepting I needed this surgery.I saw a surgeon who told me they would have to take the abscesses away so began the wait .Unbelievably the whole day went by with no blood test, pre op, drip, canula , just waiting in a side room.Ten hours passed and still no preparation even for surgery .Then a new doctor came on duty , viewed the area and said "you don't need an operation , just anti biotics. You can go ." Although it was wonderful to be told no surgery needed - I was left steaming mad that I had steeled myself all day for a general anaesthethic - was left waiting with no communication from the nurse who would just say "we don't know when you're going to theatre." It was a fiasco.I will not trust these doctors now to be able to decide who needs surgery and I certainly wouldn't want them operating on me either.I got 2 tiny cups of water in ten hours and I'd drunk nothing and eaten nothing from midnight the night before. Communication was appalling, we were just strung along with seemingly no one knowing what was happening .I could have gotten anti biotics from the G/P the day before and done without a ten hour stressful wait cooped up in a hot sweaty room , terrified of surgery . Return to Airedale ? No way !
"Ten Hours Waiting for An Op- then sent home."
