"Awful parking system."

About: Samuel Johnson Community Hospital

I had cause to visit the hospital on the 10/07/2014. This was only for an X-ray, but as I had no idea how long it would take, how am I supposed to know how much parking to pay for? How can anyone know at the time parking how long their appointment is going to take. However, I hoped I would be less then an hour and paid £2 for an hours parking. I think this price is a bit steep, by the way. Luckily my appointment didn’t take long and I have no complaints about the service I received from the hospital staff. I already considered the parking system to be awful and not really suitable for a hospital car park. So imaging how I felt, about the system, on receiving a parking charge notice a week later. I think the system installed is pure and simple profiteering, and gives very little consideration to the people who after to use it. After reading other comments about the car park, I think the soon you get it changed the better it will be for all your patients. The old system seems to be much more user friendly.

Dear Rick Thank you for your positive comments with the service provided by staff at Samuel Johnson Community Hospital. I am sorry to learn you have received a parking charge notice as a result of your visit. I hope it is helpful to explain that this new system was installed to allow concerns about not knowing how long you would be here for as the system allows you to pay on exiting. You do not need to pay on arrival. However, in relation to your parking charge notice I would suggest that if you wish to challenge this charge, please lodge an appeal directly with Parking Eye. In the meantime your feedback with be shared with our Head of Facilities. If you need any assistance or wish to discuss this matter further, then please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) Team on 01283 593110. PALS staff are available to help between 09:00 and 16:30 hrs Monday to Friday Kind regards PALS team
