About: Airedale General Hospital

I was taken into Airedale via A and E ( which seem excellent ) and admitted onto a ward for 5 days .My gall bladder had contracted and I was in dreadful pain .Rather than take the gall bladder out I was put on antibiotics via a drip .The very next night my gall bladder contracted again - I waited to be given morphine for 2 hours as the nurse apologetically explained "it's the weekend and there is only one doctor on ".One doctor for well over 200 patients she said . Eventually I was discharged and told I couldn't have my gall bladder out until some ( at least ) 8 weeks later as it had to "cool " .So in between time I would have to be readmitted for every attack and attached to a drip for anti biotic and put on morphine .How would I ever reach an 8 week gall bladder attack free period ? 3 days after I left Airedale I approached a hospital elsewhere who took my gall bladder out .I have 2 huge stones in a jar which I am now free from the pain of .No "cooling " was necessary,I am healthy, pain free and living my life out of the shadow of attacks . The cost to the NHS of hosing down attacks with round the clock drips, morphine , nursing care, bed space, over the following months had I not been operated on would have excelled the cost of the 45 minute operation .Not to mention the strain on my body and mental stress of worrying what was happening to the gall stones I was carrying round. I pity anyone in that situation and if I ever got ill again ,I would try other hospitals first or go private .
