"Friendly counsellor"

Good: A friendly counsellor! This is by far the most important aspect of Talking Therapy. If you don't get on with your counsellor it is unlikely you'll be able to open up and discuss your issues in full. So well done!

Also Good: Setting goals yourself, as you'll have more commitment to something that you've had the chance to influence.

To improve: 6 sessions didn't seem enough and by the time I had got to know my counsellor I thought that together we could make some progress, it was time to move on.

Thank you for your very helpful feedback. As you identify, being able to relate to your counsellor is extremely important and it is good to hear that felt able to open upto your counsellor. It is also true that focussing on your own goals is important as that will increase our motivation to succeed and of course make the therapy more meaningful.

We understand that 6 sessions can seem a short period time and I'm sorry you felt you could have made even more progress had you had more sessions. This can be a frustration with short term counselling however many people continue to improve even after the counselling has ended as they continue to benefit from the work they have done. We generally advise that this improvement can continue for upto 3 months.
