"Maternity Aftercare"

About: University Hospital Of North Tees

Having had my baby in South Tees hospital we were told our midwife would have to come from Nortn Tees due to where we live, the first midwife came to the house to check up on the baby and to see if I was ok, I asked them to look at my cut as I had to have a episiotomy a trainee took a look and reassured me everything was fine and try to have 2 baths a day with badidas in to help with the healing, the second visit (different midwives) came a few days after as we requested, again I asked them to take a look at me as it was starting to hurt to which her response was everything is ok but there is a gaping hole nothing to worry about just have plenty of baths to help healing, the pain persisted and a third visit from another midwife who also did the heal prick and weighing of the baby I again asked her to take a look for another opinion, This time myself and my partner felt asif she just wanted to get in and get out as quick as possible, she didn't even take a good look it was an instant yeah everything's fine if there's nothing else I will see u in 5 days time! By this point I could only manage 4 days and then had to go to my own doctor and let her have a look to which she said instantly this is infected, I'm now on a weeks course of antibiotics to help healing, the following day when the same midwife as the third visit arrived she again wanted to be in and out, weighed the baby and then asked if there was anything else before she discharged us, I told her I was infected and she didn't even bat an eye lid!!! It's now 4 days later and I'm sat in South Tees hospital having been told the stitches have come out and there is no way this will heal like it is now as the gaping hole is bigger than it should, the midwife here has said "she should be shot for not even taking a look at you before you got discharged" my partner is back to work tomorrow and now need to ask my mother to come and help me until I'm fully healed, I wouldn't go to North Tees if you paid me to as this could of effected me further on in life! I would however like to thank South Tees for all of there help as if it wasn't for them I would of been in a much worse condition

Dear Ash - we're very sorry and concerned to hear about your experience and it does sound as though we've let you down which is unacceptable. We'd very much appreciate the opportunity to talk to you about this because if there is an issue with our care we need to know about it and do something about it. We'd very much appreciate it if you could get in touch with our patient experience team at patientexperience@nth.nhs.uk or phone the team on 01642 624719.
