Back in the old days of referrals my doctor referred me to the hospital for pain management. I went to see a Doctor Kikor who recommended that I have a spinal steriod injection. This worked and sometime later I had it done again. Now that I need it done again I found out that I had to be re-reffered. My doctor did this but now I have to see another doctor at another surgery to talk about my pain?!

Thank you for sharing your comments. We understand your frustration with the recent changes to the local pain management service. Please be reassured that these changes have been made to benefit you as a patient.

The Pain Management Solutions (PMS) service is now based in the community with clinics being run from a number of GP Practices within the local area. There are various benefits to the patient, you can now choose to be seen at a location most convenient to you such as Wellington, Donnington or Sutton Hill. There are also more clinics available thus significantly reducing waiting times for the patient. The PMS Service is run by the same consultants as before, the only difference being is that it is now community based.

This new pain management is a complete waste of the NHS money and resources. It is based on people having to accept their pain and do the best they can with that pain, rather than send these patients to the correct places where they can treat and cure their pains.

More costly of course, but that's what it's all about, its not about the quality of care, but less costly route, this is fools gold as sooner or later, the patient ends up having the correct treatment as this mumble jumbo means of treatment doesn't work.
