I was admitted into hospital with really bad fever, severe sweats and lumps on body. I was seen by a registrar who did a full check up and asked my mum and sister to leave the cubicle to speak to me alone. He told me I had HIV. He hadn't even done any kinds of tests - no blood test, no nothing. Just a visual check. I obviously panicked but knew there was no way possible it could be the case.
However when you are told by a professional you have HIV, you are obviously going to start doubting yourself. He didn't even give any possibilities what it could have been, just straight up HIV.
I was kept in hospital in isolation for 2 nights and it was a nightmare. It made me feel a hundred times worse only then 2 days later did I get diagnosed with it being just a viral infection and my HIV results coming back negative.
In my opinion that doctor was very unprofessional telling me I had HIV without even doing any tests and having any results. I am very disappointed as to how wrong and seemingly unprofessional someone could possibly be. He made my stay at Good Hope Hospital a living nightmare.
