"Most of the staff were friendly ..."

About: Fairfield General Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Most of the staff were friendly and cared about my girlfriends welfare whilst she was having our baby son. The hospital was clean.

What could be improved

Staffing issues are appalling. My girlfriend was admitted to be induced on a Thursday morning and it wasn't until the Saturday morning that this occured. This was due to not enough staff being in the delivery suite and therefore it was not safe to induce her. I can appreciate this but the lack of staff was the reason why everything was prolonged. The midwife in the delivery suite was fantastic and we appreciate all of her help. others were also very helpful in the antenatal ward. There were at least three staff that I found very rude when addressing some situations, unfortunately I cannot recall their names. There was also one midwife complaining to my girlfriend on one night that she was on her own and the ward was very busy. I found this very unprofessional on her behalf as I don't think that staff should be complaining to patients about the conduct of their workplace.

Anything else?

One woman in the bed next to us had to wait almost three days for an injection for her baby girl because there wasn't a doctor available to give the injection. Therefore a bed was wasted for this period of time because of a lack of staff in the hospital.

thank you for taking your time to read this.
