"Cardiology"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

I had an echo test for longstanding and evidenced symptoms. My symptoms had got worse recently to the point it made me feel close to blacking out several times. The echo report was handed to me but it stated my name as that of my G.P even though the technician was corrected on this in the waiting area. After the echo test, I went to medical outpatient's where I had an appointment with a doctor. In the meantime, I had an ECG which was abnormal. My appointment time was 4.15pm but I did not get to see the doctor until 5.45pm. During the wait I started to feel unwell. No apology was offered by doctor for the 90 minute delay. Apart from that we felt the doctor was unsympthatic and he made me feel I was wasting his time, and taken too much of his time, because my condition wasn't going to kill me.

I am sorry that this was your experience in our cardiology department and in the outpatient clinic. The care that you experienced was below that which we expect. We try to ensure that our clinics run to time but this can be difficult at times. However, we do encourage staff to ensure that patients are informed of any delay and that their well-being is checked upon. We would like to thank you for your feedback as any patient comments help us to try and improve the services we offer. Your feedback will be shared with the teams concerned so they can reflect on how their actions affected your experience. I believe you may have also now contacted our Patient Advice and Liaison Service and a more detailed response will be provided to you following your contact with them.
