"Fantastic Team on Ward 100"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

My mother was on Ward 100 from April to July 2014. During that time we had the opportunity to observe the workings of the ward at close hand and to get to know the individual staff working both days and nights. It became clear during that time that the vast majority from staff nurses through to kitchen staff and the cleaners were friendly, caring and very professional. My mother was treated with great respect despite an illness which left her bed bound and all efforts were made to improve her health. Staff were keen to update us and despite having substantial workloads able to offer substantial levels of TLC. On a more critical note the 2 weekly change of consultants was a barrier to the improvement of longer term patients and it would have been nice if the matron had taken the time at least once to have said a couple of words to us during the 3 months we were there. However this is a team the hospital management should be proud of. They were giving first rate training to the students entrusted to them ( some of whom were exceptionally good) and first rate care to the patients. An excellent advertisement for a hospital which we know is struggling in many areas.
