My 6 month old son has been on the 6 north for the last 2.5 months as inpatient. I have asked to be reffered to another hospital today immediatly as i felt unsafe to stay in this ward any more because of the staff unprofesionalisam and lack of knowledge how to care for baby. My son was given dose of medication twice instead of once a day due to lack of communication between nightshift and dayshift nursing staff. Medicines was rarely given on time and most of the time I have reminded them that they should give the medicine. Many of the staff didn't know how to use the equipment and what are the policy and procedure for using and dealing with this equipment. Also staff didnt bothered to give or find information on the service provided on the ward. Staff lack of knowledge was always problem to read and follow doctor notes. Staff response to the nursing bell was also postponed, we have waited for 40 minutes for a nurse to come and they always send student first which they never know what to do which added more time to wait for an hour before being seen by the nurse. Tried to spoke to the matron of the ward on few occaisions but unsuccesfull. I would advise any parent who needs to use these ward to be aware of the nursing staff and to watch them very very very closely what they doing when distributing medicines or using equipments. Try to avoid the peaditric ward if you can.
