"Long uncomfortable waiting times"
About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary Doncaster Royal Infirmary Doncaster DN2 5LT
Having been given an appointment for 15:45, I had to leave work early to attend the clinic. I arrived at 15:30 and duly placed my appointment letter in the box marked G, 35 minutes later a nurse actually emptied the box and took the letter to be processed. I eventually was called almost and hour later to see the nurse to have the eye drops administered then again I had to wait for a further 15 mins for the drops to take effect. I eventually left the clinic after seeing the doctor at 18:00, so after 2.25 hours in the clinic I actually was with a nurse or doctor for around 30 mins including the waiting times for the drops. During all this time along with other patients, we had to stand in the corridor and wait all this time with no seating and no updates or apologies for running late from the staff. If I had turned up 2 hours late and kept the hospital staff waiting I probably would have had the appointment cancelled or re-arranged, because of the inconvenience to the hospital, but it is alright to inconvenience the general public it seems. The general rule is that it costs the hospital money if appointments are not kept, but what about the cost to the patients like myself that have to leave work early and lose pay to attend when a later appointment could have been arranged. This from what I have read from the previous reviews, this is an ongoing problem for over a year but it appears nothing has changed or is being done to improve the situation. Finally, there does not seam to be any account taken for people who have to travel using the shuttle buses, could not some care be taken when arranging appointments to try and arrang them around the shuttle times. Its not rocket science to determine from the address the appointment is sent to whether the patient will be using the shuttles, bearing in mind that after the drops are administered patients cannot drive.
