"Outstanding from start to finish"

About: Bristol Royal Hospital For Children

Our 6 month old son needed 2 holes in his heart closed, after reading reviews & all the recent press reports we were very apprehensive about taking our son to this hospital but after a meeting with the surgeon prior to admission many of these concerns were dealt with. We were admitted onto ward 32 the day before the operation, the nurses were fantastic in coping with our worries for our son, the surgeons came to see us and spent a long time talking through the procedure and what would happen following the operation, all the staff we met were happy to listen to our questions, there were a lot! All were answered with professionalism and courtesy. On the day of the operation the previous operation over ran but we were kept informed the whole time and our son went into theatre late in the afternoon. The surgery was successful and he went onto picu, the intensive care ward, the surgeons very soon after the procedure came and talked us through how it went and then we got to see our son. The nurses and doctors on picu were brilliant, constantly monitoring him, nothing was too much trouble when we asked for extra checks to be done. Eventually we were moved back to ward 32 where the excellent care continued everyone was so good at looking after our son with some outstanding people who went way beyond what was expected of them. The whole time our sons care was paramount, but the staff also had in mind our welfare and helped us get through tnis very stressful time. I thought that if we had half the dedication at my own place of work we would be leaders in our field everyone from surgeons, doctors nurses, cleaners, play assistants and all the other people that we came into contact with were excellent and a real credit to the NHS. Well done to everyone and thank you we now have a happy thriving little boy
