I was informed that it may take six weeks before my referral could be acted upon but I was contacted less than ten days later by a Therapist.
I attended six sessions and felt from the outset that the Therapist was able to help me identify why I had felt low and depressed and had low self-esteem. He provided me with techniques which he felt would assist me in breaking a vicious circle and to assess how and why I felt the way I did, more objectively and put things into perspective. I recognised very early that for the therapy to work for me, I needed the Therapist to point me in the right direction but that I had to work at it to gain the benefit. Although I still feel on occasions that I may relapse, I am now able to identify those moments and to address them. In my case I felt the support of my wife was and is very important. My acknowledgement of my problem was a very difficult step but was essential to both my wife and I. However, once done, everything that came after was much easier to deal with.
At the end of the sessions both my wife and I believe that I have made significant progress and that we now feel I have the tools to do the job.
