"best a&e ever been to :)"

About: Hexham General Hospital

I came in to a&e after tripping and falling over while holding my 3 months old son. The receptionist brought us strait in and a nurse showed me a room and started seeing to my son immediately. a pediatrician doctor also came in. Needles to say that I was in shock and was finding hard to put words together but staff was calm and gently asked what had happened while doing the basic observations on him. We never felt that we were waiting and wondering what was going on or if we had been forgotten( as you often feel when at a&e) there was always someone coming to check on us . when my son was hungry they just said that i should feed and settle him and they would come back later. our 4 year old was with us and nurse suggested we got some toys from the children's room(witch was lovely by the way) to entertain her. we came back home a couple of hour later as my son was well just had a phew scratches. I am just so grateful for everyone who was there that day and for being so kind and calm through what was one of the scariest moments I have had to deal with.

Dear Madam, What a frightening experience for you. I can imagine just how worried you must have been when you brought your little boy into the department. I am so pleased that he escaped with just a few scratches. It is also great to hear how all in the team rallied round to make sure your son was appropriately assessed and that you quickly received reassurance that he was going to be ok. Your story speaks of the compassion of our staff. We know as an organisation just how important it is to pay attention to this when providing care. I'm so glad that this kindness was shown to all your family that day, including thinking of the needs of your wee girl . She no doubt would have been worried about her baby brother too so I hope the toys offered a little distraction. Thanks for taking the time to share this with us – we will pass it on to the Hexham team. Best wishes, Annie
