"Why book an operation!"

About: Southmead Hospital

I took my 82 year old father for his planned operation which he has been waiting for a number of weeks. We got there early for our 11 am slot and waited. one hour 40 minutes later we got in,he signed the consent form and got changed. The wait began again. After being moved several times and told to get ready, the manager of that department came to see us just after 5 pm to announce that it had been cancelled! In her words " a piece of kit had not turned up" Not sure where it was coming from as it had 4 weeks to turn up. My father had not eaten or drank since 6 am and has Dementia. Is this the way we treat our old people who have worked and paid taxes all their life? My parents brought me up better to say what I really want too!

Dear Anonymous. Apologies for the delay in responding to your comments, I've only just realised that not all of our responses uploaded last week. I am sorry to hear that you and your father had such a poor experience. We take your comments very seriously and the Matron for Dementia has offered to investigate this case for you if you are happy to contact us with your father’s details. Please contact us at complaints@nbt.nhs.uk. Kind Regards – Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team
