I had cause to come to the Emergency Department with a member of my family yesterday. Whilst the staff seemed good the communication wasnt brilliant. The HCA didnt introduce herself and never wore gloves when taking bloods on family member. She also never gelled her hands or washed them on entering or leaving the cubicle. The Doctor who saw my family member was lovely and very kind, however she was wearing a large stoned engagement ring which is completly contravening infection prevention guidelines and is completely unacceptable. Finally, my family member was discharge from the emergency deparment with a cannular in her arm. Luckily we realised this immediately and a nurse came to remove. She did this without wearing gloves or washing/gelling her hands. She also then placed the canular on the bin and when she left she took this with her leaving a bloodstained mark on top of the bin lid which she left. Shocking.
