My elderly grandfather was admitted on Friday to a&e because of being unable to get out of bed. I came to collect him on Friday night from CDU, I found the nurse nice and friendly. However I found they just wanted the bed, i had to ask them for information on the results of why my grandfather couldn't move. Upon that the nurse then looked into his notes to find out he has been diagnosed with osteoporosis. Also I had to ask about if he has any medication to take that is new to other tablets he takes. Once he was home, I assisted him to get ready for bed and noticed that he still had his cannula in his arm. Luckily I'm a nurse myself in Norwich so I knew how to remove this but if that was anyone else or my grandfather was on his own I don't actually want to know what they would do as it's a weekend and no gps in or having his own transport to get to a&e to have it removed. As I know myself it is hard as hospitals do need beds but letting a patient out of the hospital to go home with a cannula still in his arm is really unacceptable.
