"Concerns with regard to the proposal to close the psychiatric wards at the QMC"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health (inpatient) Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult Mental Health Services - Community (City)

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

The Highbury Carers group have raised concerns with regard to the proposal to close the psychiatric wards at the QMC. They believe any reduction in beds will impact negatively on Carers. The suggestion of a a virtual ward in the community has raised fears that carers will now be responsible for the management of medication, compliance, observation and safety issues. The group feel this will have a detrimental effect on the family relationships

Hi Kimna7,

Thank you for posting on behalf of Highbury carers group. It's really important that we hear opinions and concerns regarding the proposed changes in Adult Mental Health so we can consider all options and ensure the new enhanced services better meet the needs of patients, service users, families and carers. With this in mind could I or one of the project team come to the next Highbury carers group to talk about the proposals and get a detailed understanding of your concerns and what needs to be put in place to best support carers and families. Alternatively would a member of your group like to attend the meeting that explores how the new enhanced 24 hour community team will work? We have some carer and service user representation at this group but we need more. The meeting takes place every two weeks at Highbury.

We are organising various communication events at QMC and Highbury over the next few weeks to enable people to have detailed information about the proposals and will be placing comments boxes and posters to enable increased participation

You can reach me on 0115 9691300 ext 14112 to arrange any of the above options

Kind Regards

Jo
