Unfortunately I had an ectopic pregnancy. Thanks to the Early Pregnancy Unit, it was discovered before I had any symptoms and a laparoscopic surgery was carried out soon after I was diagnosed on the same day. I am truly impressed with the care I received and the professionalism of the doctors, nurses and surgeons. I was so lucky to be treated in St Thomas hospital. I went to St Thomas the other day to simply hand in my self-referral form for the antenatal service. By accident, I walked into the Early Pregnancy Unit instead. The lady told me I was in the wrong place for antenatal service. But after having a look at my form, she noticed I had some early bleeding and suggested that I have a scan done in this unit. The scan showed it was an ectopic pregnancy. Doctors soon came to me to explain the situation. It was a shock to me and I was crying and asking a lot of questions. They answered my questions patiently even though sometimes I was asking repetitive questions due to the shock. A surgery was immediately arranged for me. The surgeon and the doctor who applied the general anaesthetic came to talk to me before the surgery. They both patiently answered my questions and worries. During my time in the ward, I was very well looked after by nurses. It’s a pity that I can’t remember all their names. I wish I could. I’d like to say a big thank you to all the doctors, nurses and surgeons who looked after me during my time in the hospital and a very special thank you to one member of staff, who truly takes care of anyone who walked into the Early Pregnancy Unit.
